ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini: Which AI Gives the Best Business Advice?

We asked ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini the same business questions. The answers were surprisingly different. Here is what we found.

We did something a little nerdy this week. We asked ChatGPT, Claude, and Google Gemini the exact same five business questions and compared their answers side by side.

If you are a small business owner using AI tools for advice (and let us be honest, most of you are at this point), you deserve to know which one gives the best guidance. The answer depends on what you are asking.

The Test Setup

We used the latest versions of each platform: ChatGPT (GPT-4o), Claude (Opus), and Google Gemini. We asked each one five questions a typical small business owner might ask:

  1. “How should I price my services as a new freelance graphic designer?”
  2. “Write me a Google Business Profile description for a plumbing company in Austin, TX.”
  3. “What are the top 3 things I should do to improve my local SEO?”
  4. “Should I hire an employee or a contractor for my growing business?”
  5. “Create a 3-month content calendar for a small HVAC company’s blog.”

Same questions, same wording, no follow-ups. Let us see how they did.

Question 1: Pricing Strategy

ChatGPT gave the most structured answer. It laid out four pricing models (hourly, project-based, value-based, retainer) with pros and cons for each, then provided specific dollar ranges for a new freelance graphic designer based on market data. It even suggested a tiered pricing strategy for different client types.

Claude took a more consultative approach. Instead of jumping to numbers, it asked what kind of graphic design work (logo design vs. social media vs. brand identity) and then tailored its advice accordingly. It emphasized the psychological aspects of pricing and provided a framework for increasing rates over time.

Gemini gave a solid but more generic response. It listed common pricing ranges and linked to external resources. Less actionable than the other two, but it cited real market data from sources like Glassdoor and Indeed.

Winner: Claude for depth of thinking, ChatGPT for actionable specifics.

Question 2: Google Business Profile Description

This is where things got interesting for SEO purposes.

ChatGPT produced a polished, keyword-rich description that read naturally and hit all the right notes: services offered, location, years in business, and a call to action. It clocked in at exactly 750 characters (the GBP limit).

Claude wrote a slightly longer initial draft but focused more on the emotional appeal: “Your home is your biggest investment, and your plumbing should work as hard as you do.” It then trimmed it to fit the character limit when asked.

Gemini wrote a description that was heavy on keywords but felt more robotic. It packed in service terms efficiently but lacked personality. It also did not account for the character limit without prompting.

Winner: ChatGPT for the plug-and-play result, with Claude a close second for voice and personality.

Question 3: Top 3 Local SEO Tips

All three gave reasonable advice, but the priorities differed:

ChatGPT’s top 3: Optimize your GBP, get more reviews, build local citations.

Claude’s top 3: Create location-specific content, ensure NAP consistency everywhere, build genuine local authority through community involvement.

Gemini’s top 3: Optimize your GBP, improve page speed and mobile experience, implement schema markup.

Honestly? All nine of these tips are good advice. But we found Claude’s answers the most strategic (thinking beyond the obvious) and Gemini’s the most technically sound. ChatGPT gave the most commonly cited advice.

Winner: Tie. Each had a different and valid perspective. This actually illustrates why checking multiple AI tools gives you a more complete picture.

Question 4: Employee vs. Contractor

This question has legal, financial, and operational dimensions. Here is where the AIs diverged significantly.

ChatGPT gave a balanced breakdown of tax implications, legal requirements, and operational considerations. It mentioned IRS classification rules and suggested consulting an accountant. Practical and thorough.

Claude went deeper on the strategic angle. It asked about the business owner’s growth goals and explained how the decision affects company culture, client relationships, and scalability. It also flagged state-specific employment laws that vary significantly.

Gemini provided the most legally cautious answer. It emphasized the importance of proper classification to avoid penalties and linked to IRS resources. Less business strategy, more compliance focus.

Winner: Claude for strategic depth, ChatGPT for practical completeness.

Question 5: 3-Month Content Calendar

This was the most complex ask, and the differences were striking.

ChatGPT produced a detailed week-by-week calendar with specific blog post titles, target keywords, and content types (how-to, listicle, FAQ, seasonal). It was ready to execute immediately.

Claude took a step back and first outlined a content strategy: defining audience segments, mapping the customer journey, and identifying content themes. Then it provided the calendar, with each post tied to a strategic goal.

Gemini produced a month-by-month overview (less granular) but included content ideas for social media and email alongside the blog calendar. It was the only one that thought about multi-channel content.

Winner: ChatGPT for execution-ready output, Claude for strategic thinking, Gemini for cross-channel perspective.

The Overall Verdict

There is no single “best” AI for business advice. Each has strengths:

  • ChatGPT is best for actionable, structured output you can use immediately. If you need a draft, a plan, or a template, ChatGPT delivers the most polished result.
  • Claude is best for strategic thinking and nuanced advice. If you want to understand the “why” behind a decision, Claude digs deeper.
  • Gemini is best for technical accuracy and data-backed answers. It is also the most likely to cite external sources, which is useful for verification.

What This Means for Your Business

The practical takeaway: do not rely on just one AI tool. Use ChatGPT for drafting and execution. Use Claude for strategy and analysis. Use Gemini for technical and data-heavy questions.

And remember that none of them replaces genuine expertise. These tools are assistants, not decision-makers. The best results come from combining AI output with your own knowledge, experience, and understanding of your market.
